Maternal diet and baby’s gender

Dietary tips and acidic foods to conceive a girl naturally

Your preconception diet may influence baby’s sex. Discover dietary tips and foods to conceive a girl by supporting the conditions that favor X-chromosome sperm.

How to have a girl? Can you influence the outcome?

It does seem that X-bearing sperm prefer an acidic vaginal environment, which is where the correlation between diet and gender selection comes in. Making the environment more acidic means the fitter female sperm are more likely to survive and a baby girl is conceived.

The Shettles Method: Ways to have a girl

The Shettles method claims that the timing of intercourse in regards to ovulation plays a role in baby’s sex. It projects that having sex closer to ovulation leads to better chances for a boy, while having sex earlier than ovulation increases the chances of a girl.

This thought is rooted in the belief that Y-chromosome sperm (male sperm) swim faster, do better in alkaline (high or basic pH) environments and have shorter life spans. Meanwhile, X-chromosome sperm (female sperm) are slower, but stronger and tend to last longer.

Foods to eat to get pregnant with a girl

Some studies and popular methods suggest that certain foods to eat to get pregnant with a girl—particularly those rich in calcium and magnesium—may slightly increase the likelihood of having a female baby, especially when combined with timing intercourse a few days before ovulation.

This dietary approach often focuses on foods that support a slightly more acidic vaginal environment and are high in calcium and magnesium, such as dairy products, and some nuts & seeds.
