Pregnant moms do not need to “eat for two” but you do need to choose high quality foods which contain all the important nutrients your baby needs now. Super important for the development of the fetus now are folic acid – found in leafy green veggies, and zinc – found in whole grains and iron – found in red meat, fish, spinach, pulses and dried fruit. Folic acid helps prevent defects of your baby’s brain and spinal cord. So, the World Health Organization recommends a supplement of 400 micrograms folic acid per day.
