Pregnancy Week 18

By this week your baby has produced most of the billions of brain cells that he will have at birth!

Nutrition Top Tip – Week 18

Calcium-rich foods help strengthen your bones and those of your baby. During pregnancy, you need up to 1200 mg calcium a day, and a glass of milk delivers about 300 mg.

But what to do in case of lactose intolerance? People with lactose intolerance may still continue to eat some cheese or yogurt (lactose is partly removed as these foods ferment). There are also lactose-free and lactose-reduced milks available in the retail.

Besides dairy products, some other foods have added calcium (e.g., breakfast cereals and fruit juices). Check the food labels to be sure.
